An illustrated talk by Allan T Condie.
Perth still has many churches but some some are now in secular use and others have disappeared. Author and publisher Allan T. Condie will take a journey through the history of many of these buildings.
But, to begin that journey we need to look outside the City into the County to understand architectural styles, church plans, and the origins of Christianity in the area, then move to the Burgh Kirk of St. John the Baptist, the reformation and its effects, and the growth of the City in the 19th century which demanded the provision of more church buildings, which sadly multiplied due to the divisions within the established church. Famous Scottish Architects were engaged to design these buildings, some by competition and their work in the City along with any important connections will also be covered.
The evening is open to PCT Members and to the general public on a first come, first served basis.
Adult (non-members): £7; Perth Civic Trust Members: £4 (inc. £1 booking fee)
