Join us for a special evening as we bring Mary Queen of Scots' story to the big screen.
The evening begins with a rare glimpse into film history as we show one of the oldest surviving films in the National Library of Scotland's Moving Image Archive. This early film offers a fascinating window into how Mary's story has been imagined and retold through the lens of cinema for more than a century.
We'll then screen the acclaimed 2018 film Mary Queen of Scots, starring Saoirse Ronan as Mary and Margot Robbie as Elizabeth I. With stunning performances, lavish costumes and powerful storytelling, the film explores the rivalry, politics and intrigue that shaped the lives of two of the most famous women in history. This pairing of archive and modern cinema highlights how Mary's life continues to inspire filmmakers and audiences alike, making this event a must for history lovers, film fans and anyone fascinated by Scotland's most famous queen.
