Cultural Connections - Singing Perthshire

Musician, songwriter, and vocal coach Debra Salem has joined forces with local historian and singer Nicky Small to offer two unique, full-day singing and history workshops. These sessions, Singing Perthshire, are both musical and informative. Debra and Nicky will explore songs through their history and individual song styles, and discuss how songs have been collected, arranged, and performed over time. You will be encouraged to sing, coached by Debra, with no previous experience necessary!

You will gain an insight into the collections held in the Local and Family History Department of the AK Bell Library and understand historical song collecting, storytelling through songs in the oral tradition ,and busting a few music myths!

There are two sessions available, Saturday 29 June and Saturday 13 July. These sessions are complementary and different topics will be covered over the two workshops so they can be attended together or enjoyed as a one-off event.
