Chansons, Perth's Chamber Choir, are performing a concert featuring Bob Chilcott's engaging choral work setting five of Aesop's famous fables . Chilcott's masterful musical setting brings each story to life, from the groaning mountain to the dozing tortoise at the end of the race, resulting in a characterful portrayal of these moral tales that is sure to appeal to audiences of all ages. Beside this work, Chansons are performing settings of many popular folksongs collected from around the UK These include:
Early One Morning - Arranged by David Willcocks
Brigg Fair - Lincolnshire folk-song collected and arranged by Percy Grainger
Yarmouth Fair - Norfolk folk-tune arranged by Peter Warlock and adapted by C. Armstrong Gibbs
Just as the tide - Arranged by Ralph Vaughan Williams
Swansea Town - arranged by Gustav Holst
Loch Lomond - arranged by Thomas Dunhill
Afton Water - words by Robert Burns arranged by David Willcocks
Bobby Shaftoe - English folk-song arranged by David Willcocks
In addition there are a selection of choral works by MacMillan, Orbán and Rutter.
The concert is raising funds for St Ninian Cathedral's organ
