Our brain weighs just a couple of kilos but contains over 100 billion cells - interconnected through trillions of connections. This incredible biological machine, capable of astounding computational power, originates from a single, barely visible cell—the fertilised egg. Professor David Price will delve into the enigmatic process of brain development.
David Price is Professor of Developmental Neurobiology, University of Edinburgh. He has spent his career striving to better understand the human brain. He studied Medicine and then pursued a PhD in Neuroscience at Oxford University, focusing on how vision develops after birth. He subsequently worked at the University of California at Berkeley, USA, investigating how genes control brain development. For the last 30 years, he has been at Edinburgh University. His research, which includes studies on humans and other animals, aims to elucidate how healthy brains function and the biological origins of brain disorders.
